OVERVIEW:

Alberta Blue Cross® is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to lead business analysis activities of large corporate projects, business analyst practice change management initiatives.  The business analyst will also be responsible for mentoring business analysts in the areas of requirements management, modeling tools/techniques, business analysis standards/best-practices, building and fostering the business analyst community.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Focus on the continued evolution and growth of the Alberta Blue Cross® business analysis practice (center of excellence).
  • Consult with clients to gather and effectively capture complex business requirements in the form of use cases at an advanced level.
  • Document requirements using use case modeling concepts.
  • Liaise with the technical staff to provide the business perspective during system analysis and design phases.
  • Work with the project manager to plan the day-to-day management of the business analysis, design, development, and testing tasks. 
    Participate in the test plan development process to ensure the solution satisfies all the business requirements.
  • Identify any potential schedule or project risks related to requirements phases and provide mitigation strategies.
  • Support the development of user training documentation for business users to ensure effective and efficient use of the new systems.
  • Plan and coordinate business analysis activities for projects/initiatives.
  • Prepare and present progress reports.
  • Participate in operational readiness assessments and transition activities.
  • Be a lead contributor to the BA Innovation Group.

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Completion of a software development technical institute or university diploma/degree program is required.
  • A minimum of ten years relevant experience in the area of business analysis.
  • Experience leading or being part of a business analysis practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay persistent attention to detail, while maintaining a strategic view of the situation and the big picture.
  • Strong facilitation skills that will be utilized in conducting user workshops to define requirements.
  • Expertise in the knowledge areas described in the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK),
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Business Process Modelling (using BPMN) and Unified Modeling Language (UML), including but not limited to activity diagrams, use cases, data modelling, sequence diagrams etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both the user community and technical teams.
  • Experience in eliciting requirements from the business teams and effectively communicating those requirements to technical teams.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to recognize symptoms, diagnose causes and identify alternative solutions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Decision-making ability and demonstrated leadership capabilities are essential.
  • Ability to multitask and meet the challenges of a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of/experience with software development methodologies in both agile and waterfall environments would be beneficial.
  • Analysis experience custom development environment would be considered an asset.
